Lent 2017 - Podcasts

'A Lenten Voyage'

Fr. Colum Kelly, Immingham port chaplain with Apostleship of the Sea, presents a series of weekly podcasts during Lent, which carries the theme ‘Our Lenten Voyage’.

There will be six of them, all approximately six minutes long. Each one is built around each Sunday's gospel of Lent and is a unique sharing from the perspective of a seafarer at sea. The podcasts are recorded and produced by the Catholic Church in England & Wales.

Week 6 - Palm Sunday.

As Lent draws to a close, we have much to reflect upon from our Lenten journey. May our prayer this Holy Week be for all who take up the cross as followers of Christ in service of others.

For the courage never to be afraid to speak up for justice, and for people who are alone and feel tired and weary from the struggles of life.

Week 5 - Jesus raises Lazarus from the dead.

And Jesus said “Unbind him, let him go free” What a lovely command. There’s gentleness in the healing words and touch of Jesus in the Gospel.

Perhaps we can try to be a little more gentle, more patient with those around us. Maybe our attempt at gentleness will rub off on others.

Week 4 - The Healing of the Man Born Blind..

Lent is a process of having our eyes opened to see and hope and love as Jesus does. Lent is about re-forming our seeing, our hoping and our desiring.

The invitation of Jesus to the man born blind is clear and it is the same invitation to each of us. Go. Wash. See.

Week 3 - The Woman at the Well..

God loves us in spite of what might be wrong in our lives. He can’t help it.
God values us enough to come looking for us, to welcome us into a share of His love and to take delight in us even if others despise us.

Week 2 - The Transfiguration.

The Apostles were privileged to witness the inner life of Christ, when His splendour was revealed to them on the holy mountain. We pray that our voyage of Lent would bring us a deeper experience of God in our own lives, and to share in His divine life.

Week 1 - Into the Wilderness.

What do we need before setting off on this voyage?
What 'baggage' do we need to leave behind?
