foundation and history

Little Sisters of the Poor

The Little Sisters of the Poor are an order of religious women, members of an International Congregation, founded by Jeanne Jugan in 1839. Their charism is a dedication to the service of the elderly.

They accompany those who they serve with love, compassion and skilled care. The lives of the Little Sisters while being active, reflect a strong contemplative dimension.

The Congregation of the Little Sisters of the Poor, an international community, was founded in 1839, when Blessed Jeanne Jugan opened her home and her heart to Jesus Christ in the person of a poor, blind and paralysed elderly person.
