Prayer Walks around the Diocese - Durham River Wear Prayer Walk

A walk that takes you from the Cathedral down to the banks of the River Wear – to enjoy woodland, river views and reflect on some of the ways in which the natural and built environment speak to us and how aspects of the natural world inspired the creators of the Lindisfarne Gospels.
You may want to take a camera – or paints/ pencils – to record some of the things you will see to help you to reflect on them more when you get home.

The walk begins on Palace Green – in front of the Cathedral (or University Library if you are visiting the Lindisfarne Gospel exhibition). You can find the location here: thttp://goo.gl/maps/XTr5w

The walk is about 2 miles but how long it takes will depend on how much time you wish to spend taking in all that you will see/ hear/ touch and smell.

There is parking in Durham but it is probably easier to use one of the Park and Ride buses. (7am-7pm).

The walk includes quite a few steps and a couple of slopes although it is possible to access parts of the riverside with wheelchairs.
