Youth Ministry Conference 2014

On SATURDAY 22ND NOVEMBER adult parishioners and young leaders (15+) gathered at this year's conference, entitled 'Outrageous Hope', at St. Mary's Catholic School, Newcastle. The facilitator was David Wells from Plymouth Diocese, a dynamic and gifted speaker who, at a time when we review the way forward for our diocese, helped us both to evaluate and to look towards the future for our ministry with young people.

The day included an opportunity to look back at the impact of YMT on different people in the diocese over the last 20 years and to look at some the variety of youth ministry currently taking place in our deaneries. A vibrant market place reflected the many groups who play their part in supporting young people.

We also had the privilege of having Fr Paul Farren from the Diocese of Derry to launch the Pope John Paul II Award in the Diocese. Through the Award, which started in Derry, young people are enabled to take an active part in the life of their Church, in the life of their community and in society and also become more aware of the teaching and role of the Catholic Church in the world. The Award is an inspiring and concrete way for schools and parishes to work together and the Youth Ministry Team and the Department for Education plan to begin the Award scheme in September 2015.
