Lent Resources 2019 - God's Gifts of Love and Mercy

Our theme this year is 'God’s Gifts of Love and Mercy' and we will look at how, for thousands of years, people have encountered our God who is full of tenderness and compassion, often in the face of human awkwardness and doubt!

We are using the First Readings for each Sunday as the springboards for our reflections. Many Catholics feel unfamiliar with the Old Testament and we hope that these sessions and the Daily Reflections, which are also based on extracts from these Scriptures, will help us to be more comfortable with it.

As usual, you will find a Leader’s sheet to guide you through a meeting for each week in Lent and one in Eastertime, which you can follow as closely or as loosely as you wish. There are participants’ sheets that you are free to copy to use with a group, or as an individual, if there is not a group meeting near you. We are trying out a new format, a tri-fold, and would appreciate any feedback you would like to offer. (This actually goes for all the resources!)

The Daily Reflections have been put into booklet form; feel free to copy and distribute. There is a booklet for each week in Lent and one for the first part of Holy Week. We are trialling a separate leaflet for each of the sacred days of the Triduum (Holy Thursday, Good Friday and Holy Saturday). If you would prefer to get them via email each day, drop us an email or phone us and we will arrange this.

There are also Prayer Stations; simple ways to engage people with the Scriptures that you can use in church or school or in your own home. Finally, resources based on the Examen, the Review of the Day and some audio files that might guide you through a couple of prayer times.

So, lots of things for you to explore!

We appreciate feedback, positive or 'constructively critical', so do get in touch with any thoughts or suggestions as to how we can improve the resources in the future.
